NYPD Suicide, Newburgh-Beacon Bridge Death: 59-Year-Old Man Dies After Jump Into Hudson River

A 59-year-old man has died following an incident at the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge in New York, authorities said.

Emergency crews were called to the Hudson River near the bridge on Saturday morning, August 22, after a report that a man was in the water. New York State Police said the incident was reported shortly after 11:20 a.m.

Investigators later determined that the man had entered the Hudson River from the pedestrian walkway of the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge. A rescue operation was launched, and the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol Unit recovered him from the water.

The man was transported to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities had not publicly released his identity at the time of the initial report.

The circumstances surrounding the death remain under investigation.
